Which to Buy? Astringent or Toner

Both astringents and toners are important products necessary for regular facial skin care. They are also designed with a similar purpose:

  1. 1. to remove excess cleanser and makeup residue from the skin,
  1. 2. to adjust the pH levels in the skin so that it does not become excessively dry,
  1. 3. to give the skin a temporary tightening effect by shrinking open pores

HOW TO USE EITHER ASTRINGENT OR TONER:

However, depending on your skin type, the use of both varies.

Here’s a shortcut: dry skin—buy my Aloe and Rose Water Toner; oily skin—buy Tea Tree & Lavender Astringent.

ASTRINGENT

An astringent is nothing but a strong toner that has anti-bacterial properties (in my product it’s Tea Tree Oil).

An astringent is basically used to control excessively oily skin. Use it if you have acne-prone skin, or extremely oily skin.

With its ability to destroy bacteria, an astringent can be valuable in controlling acne breakouts, and even pimples and blackheads.

People who have dry skin should not use astringent as this will make the skin drier. However, my astringent is safe for those who have sensitive skin because it is NOT an alcohol-based astringent.  Instead, I use witch hazel—it’s gentle.

ASTRINGENT CONTENTS:

Tea Tree Essential Oil, Lavender Essential Oil, and Witch Hazel.

Comes in a 4-ounce amber bottle with a sealed twist-top lid.

Price: $12

Shipping: $5

Apply with a cotton swab/pad on the entire face (avoid the eyes).  Apply after cleansing and before moisturizing the facial skin. Both may dry the skin if not used along with a moisturizer. Moisturizing the skin after the use of these products gives it a firm and glowing appearance. See my Aloe Vera and Green Tea moisturizer for a great complimentary product.  I also offer a “Skin Care Regimen—Oily Skin” package that covers all your cleaning and moisturizing needs. It includes my Clear Skin Soap that is a wonderful facial soap for oily skin, my Tea Tree and Lavender Astringent that follows that cleaning, and my Aloe and Green Tea Moisturizer, which leaves your face feeling soft, but not oily. The skin care regiment kit is $30. That’s a $6 savings on the individual products, plus shipping is only $7 total.

TONER

A toner is a mild product, which is used for the purpose of hydrating dehydrated skin. This includes extremely dry skin and aging skin too.

It cleans/brightens the skin and you will not find your skin feeling dry after the use of a toner.

It is even great for combination skin, as it helps in clearing the clogged pores due to the oils, and hydrates the dry areas of the skin.

When used properly along with cleansing and moisturizing products, it can cause relatively no harm.

My toner is made VERY MUCH from scratch. The rose water is distilled by me from the roses growing in my front yard. I also infuse my own lavender, using Grade One Lavender buds and aloe liquid. It cooks in a double broiler for two hours. The final ingredient is Witch Hazel.

TONER CONTENTS:

Rose Water, Grade One Lavender, Aloe Vera Liquid, and Witch Hazel.

I also offer a “Skin Care Regimen—Dry/Normal Skin” package that covers all your cleaning and moisturizing needs.  It includes: 1). My Cinnamon and Sugar Facial Wash, which comes in 5-ounce jar. It is very gentle and lasts for months; 2).  my Tea Tree and Lavender Astringent that follows the facial wash, and 3). my Aloe and Green Tea Moisturizer, which leaves your face feeling soft, but not oily. The skin care regiment kit is $30. That’s a $4 savings on the individual products, plus shipping is only $7 total.
