There are many in the United States who don't have anything special to give thanks for this holiday season. But it doesn't have to be that way. You can make a difference. I can make a difference, Together, WE can make a difference.
And all it takes is a dessert. Each year, my church, Stonebridge, located in Findlay, Ohio, feeds approximately 1,600 people on Thanksgiving day. It's a full meal, including dessert. But it's much more than just a free meal. It's a place to gather, where people are friendly. It means not being alone when you know others are with their families. It's a full stomach for a change. And I believe it's more of a blessing to those of us who serve than it is to those who are served.
This year, I'm in charge of providing dessert for the 1,600. Unfortunately, we have lost our major donor, so we are gathering pies and cakes one by one. So, Thanksgiving is only 15 days away and I only have 10 pies promised. I can't divide those by 1,600.
Timeout4me has a pay-it-forward program, so I've decided to use everything in that account to buy pies. I've also dipped into my checking account, because it's important to have dessert. I will still send out Timeout4me pay-it-forward gifts at Christmas time, but I'm asking my customers to support my decision to use the money in the account for desserts. You see, desserts are like beauty products. We don't need them to survive, but they enhance our lives, give us a few moments of great pleasure. And when your life has just a few of those moments, I think we need to try to provide a few more.
And if you live in the Findlay, Ohio area and can make or buy a pie for the Stonebridge Thanksgiving dinner, please let me know by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Or you can drop off a baked pie on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at Stonebridge, 2111 Stonehedge Dr. I'll be there all day baking.
Let's ALL have a great Thanksgiving!
